Project description

The Cut Assist from Hilti is an integrated system focused on the DST series wall saws from Hilti. This system assists users in achieving a straight cutting path by helping with the adjustment of the saw blade and guiding the cut.

Features of the Cut Assist:

  • Automated Saw Blade Adjustment:
    The Cut Assist monitors the cutting path and automatically adjusts the saw blade to achieve optimal cutting quality.
  • Cut Guidance Assistance:
    The system provides visual and acoustic signals to the user if they deviate from the ideal cutting path. This helps correct and prevent errors in the cut.
  • Real-time Monitoring:
    The Cut Assist monitors the cutting process in real time and provides the user with information about the cutting path, saw blade inertia, and cutting speed.

The HMI software communicates with the operator via touchscreen and with the wall saw.

Challenges

  • 10'' touchscreen, thus limited area for communication.
  • Due to the given processor power, there are increased requirements for the efficiency of the software.
  • Operation of the software/buttons also with gloves.
